Collection Buy Procedures

What We Buy

We actively purchase:

  • U.S. coins (circulated and uncirculated, type sets, key dates, proof and mint sets)
  • Silver dollars, half dollars, quarters, dimes, nickels, and cents
  • Gold and silver bullion (coins, bars, and rounds)
  • U.S. and some foreign currency if part of a coin collection
  • Sports cards (baseball, football, basketball, hockey)
  • Modern trading card games (Pokémon, etc.) when part of a larger collection
  • Complete collections, partial collections, and single high-value items

If you are unsure whether your items are of interest, you can still reach out—we are happy to let you know.

How to Schedule an Appointment

We buy by appointment only to give your collection the time and attention it deserves.

1. Initial Contact

Choose the method that is easiest for you:

  • Call or Text:  Brad Thompson @ (318) 732-0489
  • Contact Form: Use the "Book Appointment" link above

Please include:

  • Your name and preferred contact method
  • Your city/area in the North Metro (e.g., Elk River, Maple Grove, Anoka, etc.)
  • A brief description of what you have (for example: “two shoeboxes of baseball cards from the 1980s and 1990s” or “binder of silver quarters and a few gold coins”)
  • Approximate quantity (number of boxes, binders, albums, or totes)

2. Optional Photos

If possible, attach a few clear photos of:

  • The overall collection (boxes, binders, albums)
  • Any items you believe may be special (older dates, graded slabs, star players, etc.)

Photos help us estimate how much time to set aside and whether we need additional reference materials for your appointment.

3. Confirming the Appointment

We will respond with:

  • A proposed date and time
  • A meeting location in the North Metro—typically a well-lit, public place such as a library, coffee shop, or similar safe location
  • An estimated time needed based on the size of your collection

Once you confirm, your appointment is scheduled and you will receive a brief summary of what to bring and what to expect.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

We aim to make the selling process comfortable, efficient, and respectful of your collection and your time.

1. Greeting and Overview

We begin by:

  • Introducing ourselves and our role with Let’s Look Coin and Collectables
  • Reviewing what you brought and how the items are organized
  • Explaining our evaluation process before we touch anything

2. On-Site Evaluation

We will carefully review your items, which may include:

  • Sorting coins by type, date, and condition
  • Checking for silver and gold content and key or semi-key dates
  • Spot-checking trading cards for star players, rookies, condition, and era
  • Using basic tools such as a scale, calipers, magnifier, or price guides

Throughout this process, we:

  • Handle items with care and keep your collection organized
  • Explain what we are looking at and why certain pieces may have more or less value
  • Encourage you to ask questions at any time

3. Fair, Market-Based Offer

Once we have evaluated your collection, we will:

  • Separate items into general value groups (common, better dates, key pieces, bullion, premium cards, etc.)
  • Use current market references and recent sales data to guide pricing
  • Provide a clear, single offer for the collection—or, if appropriate, offer on specific portions

Our goal is to make an offer that is:

  • Competitive with current market conditions
  • Easy to understand
  • Free of pressure—you are always welcome to decline or think about it

4. Payment and Documentation

If you accept the offer, we typically provide:

  • Immediate payment in cash or via another agreed-upon method (such Venmo or cashier’s check, depending on size of the transaction)
  • A simple written record for your personal documentation that notes:
    • Date
    • General description of collection
    • Agreed purchase amount
    • Our business name and contact information

You keep a copy and we keep a copy for our records.

How to Prepare Your Collection Before the Meeting

You do not need to organize everything perfectly, but a little preparation can save time and help you get the most out of your appointment:

  • Keep coins in their existing holders, flips, albums, or tubes—do not clean or polish them
  • Group items by type if possible (for example: “silver dollars,” “pennies,” “binder of cards,” etc.)
  • Remove unrelated household items from boxes or totes
  • Make a note of any family stories or key pieces you want us to pay special attention to

If you are uncomfortable carrying a large or heavy collection, let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly.
